A Beautiful Distress
Over the past 15 years, Nederland Wordt Beter (NLWB) has driven lasting change by embedding awareness of the colonial and slavery past, challenging racial caricatures within the Sinterklaas tradition, and securing official recognition through a national commemoration and formal apologies.
To mark the dissolution of this successful activist organization, they partnered with the Amsterdam Museum to showcase their journey. Beyond this, the exhibition was intended as a call to action for the people of the Netherlands— to pick up the baton and continue the fight against (racial) injustice. Each visitor is invited to join NLWB on their 15-year journey, while being encouraged to take a stance and discover a form of activism that suits them best.
